Rock-hewn Churches of Ivanovo
Located 18 km south of the Danube town, the Ivanovo Rock Churches testify to the significance of the place as a spiritual center from the X - XIV century. Unlike other similar rock monasteries, this is distinguished by the many small rock churches, chapels and churches carved at different heights in the rocks of the beautiful canyon of the Rusenski Lom River and connected by paths and rocks. Besides the size of the monastery, the wonderful and well-preserved icons impress.
The medieval fortress Cherven
Originally it was an Early Byzantine fortress of the 6th century, while in the Second Bulgarian Empire (12th - 14th century) it became one of the most important military centers. The medieval city still preserves much of the past, with portions of the ancient feudal palace, fortress walls, two underground tunnels, 18 churches, public administrative buildings, dwellings, workshops, streets, and so on. Visiting this remarkable place, you will undoubtedly sink into the Knights Age.
During the Second Bulgarian Kingdom the Basarbovo Monastery was founded. It was baptized by his most famous inhabitant and eternal abbot - St. Dimitar Basarbovski. The monastery combines rock chapels and scenic views of the Rusenski Lom River. The complex has been renovated and there is a new church built with a lovely dome and icons.
Orlova Chuka Cave
The cave is located in the hilly part of the Danube plain 45 km from the regional center - Ruse. The cave was formed at the end of the Pliocene and the beginning of the Quaternary, when it represented the bed of an underground river, carved out the local threshing limestone and limestone sandstones. There were found remnants of prehistoric people and bear in it. The cave is the second largest in Bulgaria and impresses with its concert hall, the large stalaction (3.5 meters high and 0.5 meters in diameter) and the blue pond called "Izvorcheto". There is a belief that if you touch the water, you will realize your most cherished desire next year, but you have to return to the cave during that one year.
The bridge of Kolio Ficheto
At the time of its construction, the bridge connected the then Ottoman Empire to the Danube village - the city of Ruse. It was built over the River Yantra in the period 1865 - 1867 from the incredible talent - Kolio Ficheto. The bridge, in addition to an important connection, is also a real architectural and cultural value - the bearing pillars are decorated with symbolic sculptures: griffin, lion, nymph, swan. Until then, such motifs have been used at the facade of buildings only.
The Borovo silver Thracian treasure
The treasure consists of five silver objects with a golden finish, the date being approximately 5th and the beginning of the 4th century BC. The three rhytons, the rhinoceros, and the diffuse bowl are the objects included in this treasure. On them are inscriptions that are related to the Thracian king Kotytis I.
